CSBG

Coalfield Community Action Partnership, Inc. is the recipient of the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) in Mingo County.  The West Virginia Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) administers this grant.  Being a recipient of CSBG is what designates an agency as a community action agency.

Coalfield CAP uses these funds to assist the agency with its mission of “helping people, changing lives”.  This is done through assisting some of our separately funded programs as well as programs developed specifically with CSBG funds.

CSBG Programs include:

Emergency Clothing Assistance:  A clothing allowance is provided to victims of fire or flood.  The allowance is $100 per person, not to exceed $300 per household.  Proof of income, fire report or flood designation, and referral from DHHR are all required.

Emergency Medication Assistance:  Provides assistance with non-pain prescription medications of up to $150 per person, not to exceed $300 per household.  This assistance is provided to recipients when no other payment options are available.  Verification from a physician of emergency need, proof of income, and referral from DHHR are all required.

Low Income Energy Assistance Program:  Applications for this DHHR utility assistance program are accepted from the low-income in our community for processing and submission to DHHR during a specified period of time each year.

CBSG staff also provides information and referral services, providing residents with current information about available resources and services provided by other entities throughout our service area.

Program eligibility is based on poverty income guidelines.
